Fungal infections pose significant challenges in treatment due to their complexity, particularly in immunocompromised patients. In this talk, we will delve into the major classes of antifungals and their pivotal roles in managing a diverse range of fungal infections. As pharmacists, we will explore the clinical implications of common drug-drug interactions and the essential monitoring parameters for patients undergoing antifungal therapy, including therapeutic drug monitoring.
After the lecture, the participants will be able to gain an understanding on:
- The commonly used antifungals, such as azoles, echinocandins, and polyenes; their spectrum of activity and their place in therapy
- Basic understanding of azole therapeutic drug monitoring
- New antifungals in the horizon
